Why Building a Positive PERSONAL BRAND is Becoming Such a BIG DEAL?

Do you want to find that ideal role or take your career to the next level? If YES! Invest your time and energy into building your personal brand NOW!

What Is a Personal Brand?

It’s the process of creating an identity for yourself as a professional. A personal brand is how you want people to see you and think of you.

How do people perceive you? What comes up when you Google yourself? Is it a positive image of you?

Whether you know it or not, you already have a personal brand.

Why Should You Invest in Building a Positive Personal Brand?

Chances are someone will look you up online to learn more about you. A potential employer will use their network to validate your career. So, make sure the impression you create about yourself matches with hiring trends, experiences, and skills that are relevant to your industry and position.

72% of employers use social media to screen candidates during the hiring process, and 70% of decision-makers have rejected candidates based on information they found online.

We live in a world where personal branding can be your strongest ASSET or your biggest LIABILITY. A world where sales and marketing are better executed by employees with strong personal brands than by the organization’s brand itself.

Did you know?
When brand messages are shared by employees on social media, they get 561% more reach than the same messages shared by the brand’s social media channels.

A few years ago, personal branding used to be the x-factor that would give someone a competitive advantage over others.  However, now it has become essential during a job search.

4 Steps to Building a Positive Personal Brand

  1. Identify and define your brand by utilizing the strategy below
    1. Model your individuality
What unique perspective do you bring to the organization?
    2. Uphold your values
What gives your work purpose, or what do you stand for?
    3. Establish your value-additions
What is your contribution to the organization given your experience or education?

  1. Get involved in things that drive you
Find organizational initiatives that are aligned with your personal brand. Raise your hand to participate. If you don’t find what you’re looking for try to initiate and execute.

  1. Network with like-minded professionals
Connect with colleagues who have similar interests. They will inspire you, support you, shape your message, bring in new perspectives, and challenge your ideas so that you can refine them.
  2. Teach, and become teachable
Create and share content.  Dedicate time to learning new things and share your expertise in personal branding.

Remember: you are never “too busy” to work on your personal brand. Once you make it a part of your day-to-day routine, it will come to you easily, and grow from there.

A damaged reputation is the No. 1 risk for business executives around the world, and 88% say they are explicitly focusing on reputation risk as a key business challenge.

It is important that you “Brand yourself for the career you want, not the job you have.”

So, invest time in building your personal brand. If you don’t know where or how to start, seek guidance from a Career Coach.
